5 steps to keep flowers fresh for longer
A few minutes each morning adds days to your bouquet.
Cut flowers keep drinking every day. With the right care most bouquets stay fresh for 5 to 7 days.
Trim stems at an angle on arrival
Use sharp scissors to cut 2–3 cm at 45° so stems drink more easily. Cutting under water stops air bubbles blocking them.
Strip leaves below the waterline
Submerged leaves rot quickly and cloud the water. Keep the upper foliage so the bouquet still looks full.
Change the water daily
Rinse the vase, refill with cool water and trim another centimetre. Add the flower food sachet, or a little sugar with a drop of diluted dish soap.
Keep it cool and out of drafts
Avoid strong sun and direct air-conditioning, and keep flowers away from ripe fruit, whose ethylene makes them fade faster.
Remove fading blooms
One spent flower can bring the rest down with it. Remove it early and move the bouquet to a smaller vase as stems get shorter.
